May 2011: AQUALEG awarded by the Research Ministry in France. AQUALEG awarded at the National Competition of Business Startups using Innovative Technologies, organized by the Research Ministry in France. The administration expresses its interest and support for our concept of functional, waterproof and aesthetic prostheses.
Support from national and regional agencies AQUALEG is supported, since 2010, by many agencies which help to ensure its growth and development.The major supporting agencies are: Atlanpole (the regional Pays de la Loire technologic incubator), OSEO, the Region Pays de Loire.

2010: Reaching the "universal prosthesis" objective AQUALEG is devoting a large part of its activities to research and developement with one major objective: creating processes that will allow waterproof prosthetic legs to be also very practical and aesthetic. We reached the objective in 2010, giving an Above Knee AQUALEG a walking ability close to a walking leg. Our Below Knee prostheses are already so close to walking legs that they could replace it. Our objective is not only to bring another swim leg on the market, we want to create a new leg category: waterproof prosthetic legs that you can wear for long terms, without thinking anymore about it when you want to dip into the water or take a shower.
We are working on standard processes that will allow most prosthetists to offer this option to their patients. We want it to be possible on a wide range of BK and AK legs. This process can also be used on waterproof modular legs which are actually sold without aesthetic option.
A patient's project starting in 2002
Walking on a beach in summer, playing in the water with family or friends, those ordinary moments for valid people are dreams impossible to realize for amputees. Being myself in this case, I looked for a swim prosthesis for many years. A few years ago I purchased a so-called « swim-prosthesis » . Aesthetic was very basic and practical use also. This prosthesis filled with water to compensate for buoyancy. While leaving water, I had to wait until the leg drained by a hole bored on the ankle. This prosthetic leg was so basic that walking with, in or out of the water, was really exhausting. I thus decided to create the swim leg I was waiting for. Following three years of research, the first AQUA-Leg prototype was created in 2007, following two criteria:
-being able to walk with easily in and out of the water
-being aesthetically close to a real leg, enough to become « invisible » for beach and water activities
